NNA - The UN envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi denied in his chat with reporters, after a meeting with a number of opposition figures at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus, some Arab and foreign newspapers quoted statements about the transition towards new Syria and him considering that President Bashar al-Assad could "contribute to this stage without leading it himself."
Brahimi stressed that what was attributed to him "is not accurate at all."
"I am here as part of the preparations for the Geneva II, and the Syrian government is a basic party in it and what I said should be read in full. What I asked is to come to the Geneva II without preconditions, and that this conference entails the Syrian parties determining the future of their country," he clarified.
