NNA - The Special Coordinator of the United Nations in Lebanon Derek Plumbly visited on Thursday the city of Tripoli, and met with Grand Mufti Sheikh Malek Shaar, shedding light, afterwards, on the role played by the latter in promoting reconciliation and calm in Tripoli.
Plumbly expressed before the Mufti the UN's deep concern over the return of armed clashes in the city, and uttered warm condolences to the families of those who fell victims of the recent acts of violence.
"We welcome the return of calm to Tripoli," he said, assuring that a temporary cease of shooting and violence is not enough.
"There is a need for long-lasting security, social and economic solutions," he argued, assuring that the citizens of Tripoli deserve a decent and secure life like any other Lebanese.
