Mikati learns UK willing
to provide public schools with books nationwide

NNA - British Ambassador to Lebanon, Tom Fletcher, on Monday told Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, that the UK had decided to provide books to all public schools throughout the Lebanese soil, noting that fresh efforts by the UN managed to raise more than USD 300 million earmarked for the education of children in Lebanon.

The envoy visited Mikati today at the Grand Serail, and made it clear that in line with politics, the embassy was highly interested to tackle education-related affairs so that it helps the Lebanese people.

"I am pleased to announce to you that Britain has decided to stand by the students and teachers in Lebanon," he said, explaining that the Kingdom's initiative on one hand aims to provide lacking books, and, on the other, to follow up with the UN on the 300-million-dollar project mentioned above.

In response to a question on the Cabinet formation, Fletcher said it was up to the Lebanese officials to answer this. "I believe a progress has been made during the past few weeks and I am sure that the Lebanese leaderships will be coping together in the coming stage," he said.

Separately, Mikati met today with former House Speaker, Hussein Husseini, with talks touching in the required pillars to eventually build the much-sought civil state in Lebanon.

The Prime Minister also met with caretaker Minister for the Displaced, Alaeddine Terro, Acting Chief of the Internal Security Forces General Ibrahim Basbous, and Central Inspection Head Judge George Awwad.
