Five killed in Israeli shelling in Daraa, residents displaced after tank incursion

NNA - At least five people were killed in an Israeli bombardment on a town in the Daraa Governorate in southern Syria, according to local authorities, who reported an Israeli incursion into the area and the displacement of residents.

The governorate announced in a statement on its official Telegram page that five people were killed "in Israeli bombing of the town of Kowaya in the Yarmouk Basin area west of Daraa, in a preliminary toll, followed by displacement of residents," according to Sky News Arabia.

The governorate said that "Israeli occupation forces penetrated" the town, after which Israeli tanks fired several shells.

The Israeli army announced in a statement that it had "exchanged fire with a number of militants in southern Syria," noting that it had launched airstrikes.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an "Israeli military force attempted to infiltrate" the village. Residents then attempted to "confront" the force, which was followed by "heavy artillery shelling of the village by Israeli forces," resulting in casualties.

This came a day after the Israeli military announced it had bombed two military bases in central Syria.
