NNA - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported that around 660,000 children in Gaza are still out of school, noting that 88% of schools in the region have been destroyed.
UNRWA stated in a post on "X" that reports indicate that the Zionist war on Gaza has led to the martyrdom of more than 14,500 children during the conflict.
It added that "education is the lifeline for stability and the future of all children in Gaza, but with 88% of schools damaged, the challenges are immense."
It pointed out that "UNRWA is working to provide access to learning and recreational activities and support for mental health."
Juliette Touma, Director of Communications and Media at UNRWA, stated that "UNRWA staff are working around the clock to provide essential humanitarian relief to Palestinian refugees, and while a ceasefire in Gaza represents a glimmer of hope, the challenges remain significant."
It is worth noting that on October 28, 2024, the Zionist Knesset passed a law aimed at preventing any activity by UNRWA. The law stipulates that UNRWA will not operate any representative offices nor provide any direct or indirect services, and it is set to go into effect 90 days after its approval.
As a result, starting from the end of January 2025, no entry or work permits will be issued for UNRWA staff, and their requests will be disregarded. Israeli banks will face difficulties in providing banking services to the agency, and the Israeli military will be required to sever its working relations with the agency, including the office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) dealing with Palestinian entities via UNRWA.--agencies
