NNA - Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, said on Saturday that he looks forward to his country's return to the League of Arab States, at a time when the country's new rulers are seeking to find a foothold in the political scene in the region, according to "Sky News Arabia".
Al-Shaibani made this statement during a joint press conference in Damascus with Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League Hossam Zaki, who said that the League is working with member states to activate Syria’s participation.
The leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, and Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani met with the Arab League delegation.
The Arab League had previously declared the importance of standing by the Syrian people, providing them with all assistance and support at this delicate stage, and respecting their will and choices.
In May 2023, the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, in an emergency meeting held in Cairo, approved the return of Syria to its seat in the Arab League, ending a previous decision to suspend its membership, issued in November 2011.
