Gulf summit in Kuwait calls for 'immediate ceasefire' in Gaza

NNA - The closing statement of the 45th Gulf Summit in Kuwait on Sunday stressed the call of the country's Emir Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for an "immediate ceasefire" in Gaza, more than a year after the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023, according to "Agence France-Presse".

The meeting was attended by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, along with the Vice President of the Emirates, Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Bahrain, Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Oman, Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said.

Sheikh Meshaal said in the opening session, "We renew our condemnation of the brutal Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian land, and the successive genocides against the brotherly Palestinian people."

He called on the international community to ensure "an immediate ceasefire, provide international protection for innocent civilians, and ensure the opening of safe corridors and the arrival of urgent humanitarian aid."

.In the closing statement, the participants stressed the need for "an immediate and permanent cessation of fire and Israeli military operations, and an end to the siege imposed" on the Gaza Strip.

Sheikh Meshaal denounced the "double standards in the application of relevant international laws, charters and resolutions" which led to "the spread of the Israeli occupation and the destabilization of the region's security and stability."

He explained that Kuwait "is optimistic about the ceasefire on Lebanese territory, which contributes to reducing escalation in the region."
