NNA - Iran on Sunday called on the United Nations Security Council to hold an urgent meeting to condemn the recent Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council, in which he demanded that an urgent meeting of the Security Council be held to take a decisive position in condemning this aggression, in reference to the Israeli strikes, according to a statement issued by his ministry.
Israel launched strikes early Saturday on military sites in Iran, which it said came in response to an Iranian missile attack on October 1 on its territory and attacks by Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The Israeli army targeted missile manufacturing facilities and air defense missile batteries, in addition to other Iranian air systems.
Araqchi noted in his letter that “most of the projectiles that were fired were intercepted by Iranian defense systems,” but he pointed out that the attack “caused damage to the targeted points” and caused the death of four soldiers.
The Iranian Foreign Minister added that the Israeli attack constitutes a "clear violation of the sovereignty" of Iran, which "reserves the right (...) to respond to this criminal aggression."
