NNA - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is visiting the northern part of Cyprus, on the fiftieth anniversary of the Turkish invasion, announced that he does not see any benefit in continuing negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations regarding the future of the Mediterranean island, according to “Agence France-Presse.”
“There is no benefit for any party in saying, ‘Let’s continue negotiations where we left them in Switzerland years ago,’” Erdogan said in the unilaterally declared “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” adding that Turkish Cypriots should sit “on an equal footing” with their counterparts from the internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus.
