Palestine marks "Holy Sabbath of Light" in the absence of festive appearances

NNA - Christian churches that follow the Eastern calendar in Palestine commemorated “Sabbath of Light,” which precedes Resurrection Sunday (the glorious Easter), according to Wafa News Agency.

The Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem and the rest of Palestine and Jordan, Theophilus III, presided over a special prayer in the Church of the Resurrection in occupied Jerusalem, in the presence of a group of bishops and priests, and a number of worshipers who were able to reach the church despite the restrictions and military barriers imposed by the Israeli occupation in the vicinity of the Old City.

The ceremonial appearances and scout marches that take place annually were absent, in light of the continuing Israeli aggression since last October.

After the light flowed from the “Holy Sepulchre” in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, it was transferred to the governorates of Ramallah, Al-Bireh, Bethlehem, Jericho, Al-Aghwar, Nablus, and Jenin. The “Holy Light” was also transferred to the cities and towns within the 48 territories.

In Gaza, where the aggression and siege prevented the "Holy Light" from reaching occupied Jerusalem, prayers were held in the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrius, with the participation of a number of displaced people present in the church.
