NNA - President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, and Lebanon’s First Lady, Neemat Aoun, departed Beirut on Friday afternoon, heading to Rome to attend the funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican.   

Lebanon declared a three-day official mourning following the passing of Pope Francis, as an expression of grief and appreciation for the late Pope's noble stances in support of Lebanon and its just causes in international forums, and for his emphasis on Lebanon's uniqueness and the importance of its continued presence as a testament to the humanitarian message throughout the world.
