NNA - The Finance and Budget Committee held a session on Monday chaired by MP Ibrahim Kanaan and attended by caretaker Finance Minister Yassine Jaber, to continue discussions on Lebanon’s increased contribution to the International Monetary Fund and proposed amendments to fee hikes outlined in the draft 2025 budget.

Following the session, MP Kanaan stated: “We have agreed to increase Lebanon’s IMF quota subscription based on a clear vision and within the limits of the treasury’s capacity, which will be determined by the Ministry of Finance and submitted to the General Assembly.”

He added: “Fees should not be increased annually, and the burden of failure must not be placed on citizens. We have decided to take a firm stance against any such proposals the government may present.”
