NNA - Caretaker Minister of National Defense, Maurice Sleem, on Wednesday followed up on the attack on the US Embassy in Awkar, and contacted embassy officials, denouncing the attack and checking on the embassy staff's safety and well-being.

The Minister of National Defense affirmed that “the military and security forces are continuing their work to uncover the circumstances of the attack and the parties behind this act,” stressing the “readiness of the security services to protect diplomatic missions and headquarters.”

On the other hand, Minister Sleem met at his Yarze office with the newly appointed United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, who came on a protocol visit upon assuming her new duties in the country.

Discussions reportedly touched on the current situation in Lebanon and the region.
