NNA - The Embassy of Tunisia in Beirut organzied on Friday a reception at the residence of Tunisian Ambassador Bouraoui Limam, on the occasion of "World Press Freedom Day" in honor of Lebanese media professionals and content creators, from different generations and multiple specializations, led by Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad al-Makary, Syndicate of Press Editors Dean, Joseph al-Qosseifi, m Information Office Director at the Republican Palace, Rafik Shalala, and representatives of the Press Syndicate.
In his welcoming word, Ambassador Limam expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all Lebanese media professionals “who contributed to introducing Tunisia, its civilizational and cultural resources, its economic and tourism advantages, the common and rich cultural heritage between the two brotherly peoples, and to supporting the bonds of brotherhood and strong relations of cooperation between Tunisia and Lebanon.”
He emphasized "the pivotal role of the media in serving societal issues, informing public opinion, and defending the values of freedom, justice, and humanity in general."
According to a statement distributed by the embassy, the reception was an occasion to pay “great tribute to all the media professionals and content creators who sacrificed themselves for Palestine and Lebanon, stood up for the banner of truth, succeeded in exposing the ugliness of the brutal occupation, and contributed to creating a global public opinion supportive of the just Palestinian cause and the values of humanity.”
At the end of the reception, Ambassador Limam presented an honorary shield to Minister al-Makary “as a token of appreciation for his contribution to boosting the strong bonds of brotherhood between the Tunisian and Lebanese brotherly peoples, and his keenness to develop relations of cooperation between the two countries.”
For his part, Minister Makary expressed his pride in this honorary gesture and praised the “long-standing historical relations and common cultural heritage” that unites the two countries.
He also commended "the great role of the media in serving the causes of truth and serving the nation and the citizen."
Makary stressed that "the primary goal is to protect freedom of opinion in Lebanon, whatever the cost, and that Lebanon is keen on defending the rights of its people in general and its media professionals who fell as martyrs in southern Lebanon," referring to the legal and judicial measures initiated by the Ministry and the Lebanese government in this regard.
