NNA - The Lebanese Army Command - Directorate of Guidance, on Friday announced that on January 3, 2025, a military unit intervened to close an illegal border crossing in the Maaraboun region of Baalbek, along the Lebanese-Syrian border. During the operation, a group of Syrians attempted to reopen the crossing using a bulldozer. 

In response, the Lebanese Army fired warning shots into the air. The situation escalated when the Syrians opened fire at the soldiers, injuring one and triggering an exchange of gunfire between the two sides. 

The army has since implemented heightened security measures in the area, with deployed units enforcing strict controls. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
