NNA - Caretaker Minister of Education and Higher Learning, Hassan Diab, met Friday at his office in the Ministry with the Secretary General of Education International (EI), Fred van Leeuwen, over Lebanon's capacities in providing education to the huge numbers of Syrian displaced.
The meeting, also attended by a officials from the teachers union, further dwelled on the situation of teachers in Lebanon and their contribution to developing the educational system.
In remarks made to reporters, Leeuwen indicated that the United Nations expected around 400 thousand Syrian displaced to be enrolled in Lebanon's schools soon. "We do support the efforts of the Lebanese government to make the [education] service available," he said.
For his part, Diab said that Lebanon was officially notified by international sides that amounts of funds, devoted to the refugees' education, had been earmarked to Lebanon.
