Palestine Land Studies Center at AUB Announces the Abu Sittah-Gilbert Humanitarian Award

NNA - The Palestine Land Studies Center (PLSC) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) announced the launch of the Abu Sittah-Gilbert Humanitarian Award (ASGHA), an initiative that recognizes the exceptional contributions of health professionals worldwide who risk their lives and livelihoods to provide care and protection in active war zones and conflict settings.

The award is named after two distinguished humanitarians. Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah, a Palestinian-British reconstructive surgeon, is renowned for his extensive work in war-torn regions including Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon, where his efforts have saved countless lives. Dr. Mads Gilbert, a Norwegian anesthesiologist and activist, has dedicated over four decades to supporting Gaza's healthcare system, exemplifying a lifetime commitment to humanitarian action.

PLSC encourages the global community to engage with this initiative by nominating deserving candidates or contributing to the award through donations. Nominations can be submitted via email to plsc@aub.edu.lb

Additional information is available on the Abu Sittah-Gilbert Humanitarian Award website.

The Abu Sittah-Gilbert Humanitarian Award highlights the courage, commitment, and altruism of healthcare workers who stand on the frontlines and provide critical, life-saving care under the most dangerous and challenging conditions.
