Al-Halabi: Any move to refrain from teaching will cause great harm to public education

NNA - Caretaker Minister of Education and Higher Education, Abbas al-Halabi, announced on Sunday that official schools, high schools, and vocational schools will open their doors tomorrow, Monday, to students who wish to choose in-person learning in schools that will resume the new school year despite the complex conditions in the country.

Al-Halabi expressed his condolences to the families of the martyrs in the education sector, including teachers and students, wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded.

The Minister thanked Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, House Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and former Progressive Socialist Party Chief, Walid Jumblatt, as well as the parties supporting the start of the scholastic year, noting that "the insistence on not losing the school year and the approaches enabled by the Education Ministry allow everyone to engage in the educational process."

Al-Halabi stressed that saving the school year is his first concern, considering that the participation of teachers at all levels and specializations in launching the scholastic year allows him more room to address the government on securing productivity allowances for teaching staff and workers in the general and professional educational sector.

He considered that any move to refrain from teaching would cause great harm to public education and would not be justifiable, amidst his ongoing efforts to obtain teachers' rights.
