NNA - Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday stressed his government’s “keenness of the rights of depositors” and its “utter commitment to preserve them.”

“The capital control law aims to impose exceptional and provisional controls on bank transfers and cash withdrawals. Therefore, it is not relevant to the depositors’ rights,” Mikati explained.

“I call upon all those concerned to approach this matter objectively, away from outbidding and popularism,” he continued, highlighting the necessity of reaching a just and equitable solution.

Within this context, Mikati sent a related letter to the Parliament, with a copy of his government’s initial plan attached.
