NNA - Public transport drivers on Wednesday cut off many roads across Lebanon in response to a call by the land transport union to go on strike and protest against the government’s failure to fulfill its promises and include the terms of the agreement that had been previously made between the transport union and the government on the Council of Ministers’ agenda.
Head of the Truck Owners Syndicate, Shafik al-Qassis, confirmed that the sit-in would continue for three consecutive days. “Subsequent steps would be announced if the government fails to respond to the union’s demands,” he added.
For his part, fuel distributors’ representative, Fadi Abu Chakra, said that it was no longer possible to endure the dire status quo in the country.
“Our demand is that of every Lebanese citizen. Enough with the impoverishment of the people! We will remain on the street until our demands are met,” he added. Accordingly, the following roads have been blocked:
-Al-Nahar Intersection
-Bechara El-Khoury Intersection
-Burj Al-Ghazal
-Central Bank Hamra
-Martyrs Square
-Kuwaiti Embassy
-Al-Dora
-Karantina Highway in both directions
-Aley Roundabout
-Al-Naameh Highway towards Beirut
-Al-Palma Highway in Tripoli in both directions
-Al-Awali Highway in Sidon in both directions
-Khaldeh Highway in both directions
-Burj Al Ghazal intersection Beirut
-Nahr El Kalb Highway in both directions
-Khaldeh Highway in both directions
-Mkalles Roundabout - Sin El Fil
