NNA - MALBATT 850-12 has distributed 20 food boxes and blankets to the residents of Chahabiya. This assistance is part of the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) program, aimed at alleviating the burden of communities affected by conflict and providing support to the local population.
The aid was officially handed over by the Commander of MALBATT 850-12, Colonel Johan Effendi bin Haji Mohd Shalleh, to the Mayor of Chahabiya, Mr. Ali Rkein, at the Municipality of Chahabiya. In addition to the aid distribution, Colonel Johan Effendi also held a Key Leader Engagement (KLE) session with local leadership to strengthen cooperation between MALBATT and local authorities.
During the discussion, Mr. Ali Rkein expressed his gratitude to MALBATT for their continuous support and assistance to the community. He also highlighted previous aid projects that have significantly benefited residents, including the restoration of a volleyball court.
Mr. Ali Rkein also shared the severe impact of the conflict in southern Lebanon, which has caused extensive damage to infrastructure, public facilities, and defense equipment. He emphasized that this destruction has not only affected the community's well-being but also complicated post-conflict recovery efforts. The damage to civil defense vehicles and essential facilities has had a profound impact on the lives of local residents.
Meanwhile, Colonel Johan Effendi conveyed his deep sympathy for the hardships faced by the Chahabiya community due to the conflict. He reaffirmed MALBATT’s commitment to continuing their efforts in providing aid and necessary support to ease their burdens.
The assistance provided is hoped to bring some relief to the affected residents. As part of its mission under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and in accordance with UN Resolution 1701, MALBATT 850-12 will remain dedicated to supporting the local community.
