NNA - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk arrived in Damascus on Tuesday at the start of a visit to Syria and Lebanon from 14 to 16 January.

During his brief two-country visit, Türk is scheduled to meet officials, as well as representatives of civil society organisations, members of the diplomatic corps and UN entities.

This is the first visit by a UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to Syria, and the second visit to Lebanon after the Human Rights Chief visited there in 2002.

More details about a news conference, including instructions on registration, will be issued locally.
