NNA - The Directorate General of Lebanon’s Civil Defense on Thursday issued the following statement:
"Given the heightened risk of wildfires, as indicated in the recent forest fire probability bulletin, especially in the coming days, the Directorate General of Civil Defense has elevated preparedness across all regional and local centers. In this context, the Directorate reminds citizens and residents to immediately call 125 if they see smoke or in the event of any emergency. Additionally, they are urged to follow guidelines to prevent forest fires and avoid using fireworks and firecrackers, which can cause significant damage to forests and properties."
The statement included the following guidelines to prevent grass and forest fires:
Preparedness and Awareness for Forest Fires
- If you see a fire, stay calm and call the Directorate General of Civil Defense at 125, providing the following information: your name, phone number, the exact location of the fire, and its type.
Preventive Measures for Forest Visitors
- Dig a small pit away from dry grass or branches for barbecuing, cover it with soil, and pour water on it to cool it down after use.
- Monitor the fire continuously, especially in strong winds, which can spread sparks.
- Keep flammable materials away from the fire.
- Collect trash in bags and dispose of it in garbage bins, especially glass items.
- Do not throw cigarette butts from cars or while hiking in forests or near wooded areas.
- Keep a handheld extinguisher nearby for emergencies.
- Do not burn waste.
During Holidays and Celebrations
- Avoid using fireworks, especially near forests or dry grass.
Guidelines for Landowners
- Do not burn dry grass when cleaning land, as it quickly ignites, especially in strong winds.
- Clear small branches and dry grass from under trees and place them in safe areas away from forests.
