NNA - Prime Minister-designate, Tammam Salam, on Friday said the fresh events that have been jolting Tripoli since the weekend were painful, warning of the dicey upshots of tampering with the city's stability and security.



"The bloodshed our dear Tripoli is witnessing entails that its sons brush aside the logic of violence and instead stand together to protect their city and skirt the dauntless bids to import the Syrian crisis into it," he said.



"The top responsibility is that of the state and its apparatuses which must deal with utmost firmness with the troublemakers without waiting for any prior permission from anybody," he stressed, calling upon the sons of Tripoli to rally around the army and security forces so that they should be able to fully assume their mission.



He also prodded fighters to have mercy upon the city and its sons and to cease killing which would only lead to chaos and destruction.



Salam has contacted by phone today outgoing Prime Minister Najib Mikati, caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities Marwan Charbel, Army Chief General Jean Qahwaji, and Tripoli Mufti Sheikh Malek Chaar.



Talks reportedly touched on the latest developments in the northern city and the means to curb put terms to the ailing situation there.
