NNA - Caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Marwan Charbel, chaired Monday a meeting at his office in the Ministry to tackle the issue of removing squatters in al-Qaa region.



Charbel made it clear that the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities was keen on precluding the Internal Security Forces from intervening in removing squatters, stressing that the law does not entitle the ISF to contribute unless the concerned municipalities and local authorities fail to do so alone.



"The duty of the head of the municipality is to notify the security forces of any contravention municipal police cannot curb," he said.



"Granting construction permits are not within the competences of the ISF," he added.



"ISF will not intervene directly on this level unless the local authorities request so. But in the event of any violation of public property, ISF are bound to intervene without any prior demand," he said.
