(Update) Shaar meets Safadi and Bassil

NNA - Mufti of Tripoli and North Lebanon, Sheikh Malek Shaar, met on Saturday outgoing Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi.

After the meeting, Safadi expressed his delight with the return of Sheikh Shaar in Lebanon after a long stay in Paris for security reasons.

"His return is a positive contribution to return to normal life in our country," he said.

Sheikh Shaar also conferred with outgoing Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Gebran Bassil, on head of a delegation of the Free Patriotic Movement.

During the meeting, the Mufti shed light on the negative and falsified images broadcasted by some media, including the OTV channel.

He considered that these images affect the city of Tripoli.

For his part, Minister Bassil, who spoke at the end of the meeting, stressed that the absence of Shaar, "the sheikh of moderation and tolerance" has created a vacuum in the country.

"His return to [Tripoli] restores its normal image, that of tolerance and coexistence," Bassil said.

He then called for unity between the Lebanese and the refusal of any kind of schism and the commitment to pluralism that distinguishes the country.

The Sheikh also received a phone call from MP Michel Aoun, leader of the parliamentary bloc of Change and Reform.

The Mufti, for his part, expressed his appreciation to Minister Bassil and MP Aoun, stating his readiness to cooperate and communicate with all Lebanese leaders in order to maintain the interest of Lebanon.
