NNA - A resistance which supports and fights for the criminal Syrian regime is no resistance at all, Lebanese Forces Leader Samir Geagea said Friday during a graduation ceremony for academy of LF cadres, whereby he gave power back to the Lebanese saying that real change is in their hands, and it is high time the constitution reclaimed its authority.
Geagea argued that all politicians were in power due to choices made by the Lebanese themselves, and only the people can yield true change. Thus, for real transformation to occur people must relinquish "party and political ossification" and base their choices on the work and stances of a politician or party.
At that, he was staggered at the state's passive attitude towards Syria, recently discovered to be behind two terrorist attacks in Lebanon.
"Part of the terrorist cell behind Tripoli's twin explosions was exposed along with the details of the operation," he said, applauding the diligent work of the Information Branch and Military Commissioner Judge Saqr Saqr who interrogated the suspects and issued arrest warrants against them.
"The verity is that the Syrian intelligence and regime are behind the explosions in Tripoli and we can relate it to the Samaha-Mamlouk conspiracy."
In the span of one year, the Syrian regime successfully carried out two terrorist acts, and yet the Lebanese State remained silent and disgracefully passive, in Geagea's words.
"Work continues as usual between the Lebanese and Syrian governments as if nothing has happened; how then can the citizen keep the faith in the state in face of such facts?"
The veteran politician said the Lebanese State should have summoned its ambassador from Damascus and expelled the Syrian ambassador at the very least. Another mode of conduct that the state could have gone with was to issue a memo to the Arab League on said attacks.
Perhaps the biggest treason against Lebanese citizens and cities came from within, as Geagea pointed out to domestic allies of Bashar Assad.
"They speak of a resistance that defends Lebanon, which we never had faith in the authenticity of, yet how could anyone continue to believe in it?"
The sole solution to the country lay in the constitution redeeming its supremacy.
"We are in pressing need for a government."
Geagea called on President Michel Sleiman and PM-designate Tammam Salam to prepare a strong and sovereign cabinet line up and send it to parliament. And then when the due date of presidential elections arrived, the House must elect a new president. Only thus could the country be recouped.
