NNA - Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, on Friday paid a visit to the Apostolic Nunciature in Harissa, where he extended his condolences to Apostolic Nuncio Monsignor Paolo Borgia following the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis.
In the condolence book, Prime Minister Salam wrote:
“With the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, Lebanon loses a steadfast supporter, and the world loses a man of love and peace, a defender of the poor and marginalized, known for his humility and closeness to the people. He always stood by Lebanon, prayed for it, and longed to visit.
Our deepest condolences go to the Holy See, Christians around the world, and the countless admirers of the late pontiff.
His Holiness leaves behind a profound legacy in his pursuit of global peace and justice. Who could forget the Document on Human Fraternity he signed with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, or his journeys to the ends of the earth in defense of genuine fraternity and interfaith dialogue—values that Lebanon is uniquely positioned to embody and uphold.”
Following his visit to the Nunciature, Prime Minister Salam stopped in Bkerki, where he inquired about the health of Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, who recently underwent surgery. He wished the Patriarch a speedy recovery and continued good health.
