The Kataeb Party's political bureau held its weekly meeting, chaired by party leader Samy Gemayel. After reviewing the developments of the past week, the bureau issued the following statement:
1. The political bureau expresses deep concern over continued violations of the ceasefire agreement, reaffirming its full confidence in the Lebanese Army’s ability to maintain a strong and effective presence across the country, particularly in border areas. The party also expresses trust in the army’s capacity to uncover the circumstances behind the recent rocket launches from Lebanon and identify those responsible.
The Kataeb stresses the need to avoid providing Israel with further justification for its attacks on Lebanon. It calls for a clear plan to collect illegal weapons, urging the Cabinet to place the issue on its agenda. The party proposes setting a transparent and actionable timeline for disarmament to ensure Lebanon breaks free from the cycle of perpetual conflicts, thereby laying the groundwork for lasting stability and security.
The political bureau underscores that looming electoral deadlines should not be used as a pretext to delay addressing the disarmament issue. Resolving this matter decisively remains a top priority, as genuine stability will remain impossible without a comprehensive solution.
2. The Kataeb Party reaffirms its commitment to holding parliamentary elections on schedule. While welcoming constructive dialogue on improving the electoral law, the party stresses that such discussions must not be exploited as an excuse to disrupt the electoral process under the guise of political disagreements over a unified framework.
The party firmly rejects any electoral law that compromises fair representation, warning that any deviation from the principles of democracy, freedom of expression, and the right to vote under proper state supervision would mark a significant setback for Lebanon’s democratic path.
3. The Kataeb welcomes the announcement of municipal and mayoral election dates, calling on its supporters and allies to actively participate—whether by running for office or casting their votes. The party highlights the crucial role of these elections in enhancing local governance, especially after local authorities have shown resilience in addressing citizens' needs during the country’s toughest moments while the central government struggled to fulfill its responsibilities.
