NNA - Public Works and Transport Minister, Fayez Rasamny, on Friday welcomed Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Rudakov, who paid him a courtesy visit marking the start of his ministerial tenure.
The meeting reportedly focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in sectors related to the ministry.
In turn, the Russian ambassador reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Lebanon.
Rasamny also held a meeting with the committee overseeing the operation of René Moawad Airport in Qlayaat.
The Minister assured the delegation of his commitment to reopening the airport, emphasizing its economic and developmental benefits. He also announced plans to visit Akkar soon and confirmed that work would begin on rehabilitating the Aboudieh, Arida, and Wadi Khaled border crossings.
Committee President Hamed Zakaria highlighted that reopening the airport was essential for revitalizing underprivileged areas in northern Lebanon, creating job opportunities, and attracting investment.
Rasamny later met with a delegation from the World Lebanese Cultural Union, led by Roger Hani, who briefed him on initiatives aimed at helping young Lebanese expatriates connect with their heritage. The delegation requested transportation support for visiting youth groups and invited the minister to attend an official event planned for the summer.
