NNA – President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on Friday met with House Speaker, Nabih Berri, at Baabda presidential Palace.

President Aoun briefed Speaker Berri on the outcome of his visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. President Aoun also briefed Berri on the meetings he held on the sidelines of the extraordinary Arab summit in Cairo on the Palestinian cause.  

President Aoun and Speaker Berri also discussed the current general updates, especially the situation in south Lebanon. 

President Aoun later met at Baabda Palace with National Defense Minister, Major General Michel Menassa, with whom he discussed the security situation in the country, and the army deployment in southern cities and villages.

The discussions also addressed the needs of the military institution.

Aoun also met the President of the Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Kate Forbes, in the presence of the Deputy Regional Director of the IFRC, Christian Cortez, the Lebanese Red Cross President, Dr. Antoine Zoghbi, the Secretary General of the Lebanese Red Cross George Kettani, and others.

Forbes congratulated President Aoun on his presidential election.

She presented the Federation's activities in the Middle East countries and in Lebanon and the difficulties facing workers in the humanitarian and relief fields.

Forbes also touched on the role of the Federation in terms of coordination and enhancing cooperation with the local committees of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and the necessity of “providing support to them so that they can fully perform their role.”

President Aoun, in turn, welcomed Forbes and the accompanying delegation, thanking the efforts made by the International Committee of the Red Cross during the recent Israeli war on Lebanon.

President Aoun also hailed the coordination between the Lebanese Army and the Lebanese and International Red Cross.

Aoun later met at Baabda Palace with Minister of Telecommunications Charles Hajj, over relevant ministry affairs.

The President also received Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmad Al-Hajjar, with whom he discussed the the security situation and the ongoing preparations to hold the municipal and mayoral elections on time.
