NNA - President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, on Monday chaired a meeting devoted to discussing developments related to Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Minister of National Defense Michel Menassa, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Raji, Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad Hajjar, Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny, and Head of Airport Security Brigadier General Fadi Kfoury.

The following statement was issued:

“The President of the Republic and the Prime Minister praised the work of the military and security apparatuses to preserve security within the airport’s vicinity and to keep the road leading to it open.

- Giving the necessary and strict instructions to the military and security apparatuses to prevent the disruption or closure of the airport road and to safeguard public property.

- Tasking the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants with following up on diplomatic contacts to address the issue of flights between Tehran and Beirut and ensuring the return of the Lebanese passengers still in Iran.

- Emphasizing the measures and procedures followed in inspecting all aircraft and assigning the airport security apparatus to follow up on compliance with the necessary directives.

- Tasking the Minister of Public Works and Transport with extending the suspension of flights to and from Iran."
