NNA - Interior Minister, Brigadier General Ahmad al-Hajjar, announced in a press conference following the Emergency Central Security Council meeting that “attacking UNIFIL forces is considered a crime."
"Today I was informed of the movements and procedures that took place and the prosecution of the perpetrators who trespassed on property and attacked the UNIFIL," he added.
"So far, we have more than 25 detainees at the Lebanese Army Intelligence, and there is a detainee at the Information Division of the Internal Security Forces,” al-Hajjar added, explaining that “this does not mean that these detainees committed the attack on UNIFIL, but the investigations will show who is responsible and who is the perpetrator."
Al-Hajjar assured that the investigations "will continue in a very serious manner."
He added: “I asked the army and security forces to be firm on the ground to maintain security and protect citizens,” noting that “expressing opinion is permitted within the rules and laws, but blocking roads and encroachments are prohibited."
"The measures will be serious," he affirmed.
