NNA - President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, affirmed his determination to develop Lebanese-Algerian relations in all fields, praising the positions of Algeria in the UN Security Council alongside Lebanon, especially during the recent Israeli aggression, and appreciating the continuous support Lebanon receives from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
President Aoun's stances came during his reception this morning at Baabda Palace of the Algerian Presidential Envoy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf, who delivered a written message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in which he expressed his greetings and congratulations to President Aoun and wished him all success in his mandate and the brotherly Lebanese people security, stability, and progress.
"Algeria and Lebanon have a shared history full of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual support on issues of concern to our two brotherly peoples. Our positions have always been identical in defending the issues of our Arab nation in all forums. To this end, I am honored to extend an invitation to you to visit Algeria on a date to be agreed upon through the usual diplomatic channels. I would be pleased to meet you to consider ways to enhance relations between our two brotherly countries and to exchange views on all issues of mutual concern in these sensitive circumstances that the Arab region and the world are going through," the letter said.
During the meeting, Minister Attaf affirmed his country's support for Lebanon, reiterating President Tebboune's congratulations to President Aoun on his election, and stressing his keenness to strengthen relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples. He also called for advancing economic relations and activating the work of the joint body of Lebanese and Algerian businessmen.
Attaf reiterated his country's permanent position in the UN Security Council and its adoption of Lebanon's justified positions, stressing the importance of coordination between the two countries in Arab, regional, and international forums.
"Lebanon is going through a critical phase in its history, one of strengthening its institutions, reviving its economy, and establishing security. In all these phases, Algeria cannot but stand firmly by Lebanon's side," Attaf asserted.
For his part, President Aoun expressed his appreciation for the invitation extended to him by President Tebboune to visit Algeria, valuing the greetings and wishes conveyed by Foreign Minister Attaf and emphasizing the importance of activating and developing bilateral relations in various fields.
