Jordanian Foreign Minister from Ain el-Tineh: Kingdom commends Speaker Berri's role, welcomes Gaza ceasefire

NNA – House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Thursday welcomed Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, and his accompanying delegation at the Second Presidency in Ain al-Tineh. The meeting was attended by Jordan's Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Hadid, and Speaker Berri's media advisor, Ali Hamdan. Discussions covered Lebanon's and the region's general situation, political and field developments, and bilateral relations between the two countries.

"I just concluded a meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri, to whom I conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Kingdom's appreciation for his role in helping Lebanon navigate its recent crisis,” Safadi said on emerging.

"I’ve reaffirmed Jordan's support for Lebanon’s security, sovereignty, and stability. Hopefully, this new phase marks a turning point for Lebanon to overcome past challenges and move toward a brighter future for all its people. Jordan stands firmly with Lebanon and its efforts to address the repercussions of past crises. With the election of a new president and the designation of a prime minister, we hope Lebanon and its institutions will regain their full role in the region,” Safadi added.

"Speaker Berri has played a pivotal role that we deeply respect and value. We look forward to continued brotherly cooperation to further strengthen the historic relations between Jordan and Lebanon,” the Jordanian Foreign Minister added.

When asked about the possibility of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu violating the Gaza ceasefire, Safadi said, "Yesterday, the agreement was announced clearly and decisively by the mediators—Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. The world recognizes the importance of adhering to and implementing this agreement, as the alternative is the continuation of a catastrophe that has devastated Gaza and pushed the region to the brink of explosion."

"We welcome the agreement and call for full compliance. We also urge the opening of all crossings and an international effort to deliver sufficient humanitarian aid to Gaza, which is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Respecting the ceasefire is an urgent regional and international interest for peace and stability,” Safadi added.

Safadi further emphasized the importance of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

"The ceasefire is a critical step, but it must lead to meaningful regional and international action to establish a political horizon that fulfills Palestinian rights and establishes their sovereign state. Without this, the region will remain trapped in conflict, affecting everyone,” Safadi noted; however, he concluded with optimism about regional developments.

"Our region is witnessing encouraging breakthroughs: Lebanon has elected a president and designated a prime minister, a ceasefire has been reached in Gaza, and there is growing regional and international support for Syria to rebuild itself on the foundations of security, stability, and inclusivity. These developments create justified hope for a more stable and prosperous future."
