NNA - Minister of Information Dr. Paul Morcus on Friday inaugurated a training workshop on international humanitarian law for journalists, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in partnership with the Lebanese Army at the Fouad Chehab Command and Staff College in Rihanieh. The event brought together journalists from various media outlets and was attended by senior military, legal, and humanitarian officials.
In his opening remarks, Minister Morcus emphasized the importance of equipping journalists with the legal tools and terminology necessary to safely and ethically report from conflict zones. “This training underscores our joint commitment to promoting responsible journalism and safeguarding media professionals operating under extreme risks,” he said.
ICRC Head of Delegation in Lebanon, Agnès Dhur, reaffirmed the organization’s mission to disseminate humanitarian law and stressed the journalist’s role as frontline witnesses, responsible for conveying facts with accuracy and integrity. She praised the collaboration with the Ministry and the Army, describing the training as part of broader efforts to ensure journalists understand their rights and obligations under international law.
The program featured lectures on the principles of humanitarian law, protections for civilians and journalists, and the ICRC’s role in conflict zones. The event concluded with a certificate ceremony and group photos.
