NNA - Former Progressive Socialist Party Chief Walid Jumblatt said in a press conference held at his Clemenceau residence this afternoon, that "the free people of Syria must beware of Israeli plots," adding that "if a small minority here or there wants to drag Syria into chaos, I do not think that those who united Syria will respond to Netanyahu's call."

He said, "I will visit Damascus again to tell everyone that Damascus is the capital of Syria, and I have requested an appointment to meet with Sharaa."

"We were and will remain against peace with Israel until an independent Palestinian state is established," Jumblatt asserted.

Regarding southern Lebanon, he said, “There is an occupation in the south, and we are counting on the contacts of President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam with the major countries.”

The press conference held in the presence of "Democratic Gathering" parliamentary bloc head, MP Taymour Jumblatt, touched on the latest developments and preparations to commemorate the 48th anniversary of Leader Kamal Jumblatt’s martyrdom.

"We were patient, steadfast, and victorious. After 48 years, the Syrian regime fell, the people were liberated, and freedom returned to Syria thanks to the Syrian people, and thanks to Ahmed al-Sharaa and the various and diverse political factions,” Jumblatt said, adding, “We want March 16, 2025 to be a great popular anniversary, and there will be no official invitations, and we want the Lebanese flag alone.”

He continued, "Anyone wishing to attend among officials and parties is welcome, for we will not extend any invitation, and there will be one flag only, which is the Lebanese flag. I do not want partisan or non-partisan flags. Our chosen affiliation is to Lebanon, and our broad affiliation is to Arabism."

Jumblatt stressed: "We will remain as we were with Speaker Berri and the national forces, and with Sleiman Franjieh (grandfather) and Rashid Karami...We have been and will remain against peace with Israel until the Palestinian state is established and a solution is reached for the refugees who fled occupied Palestine in 1948."
