NNA - Following the legislative session on Thursday, MP Gebran Bassil, leader of the "Strong Lebanon" Parliamentary Bloc, addressed the media, emphasizing unwavering commitment to fulfilling parliamentary responsibilities. He highlighted the bloc’s active participation in drafting and passing legislation that serves the public interest, particularly urgent laws.

Regarding municipal elections, Bassil noted the bloc's dilemma between leaving municipal positions vacant or proceeding with elections that seemed unlikely. He explained that despite efforts, logistical and administrative preparations for elections were not sufficiently advanced, potentially leading to a governance vacuum.

Bassil also discussed the financial challenges facing municipalities, noting that some were on the brink of financial collapse. He revealed proposals to amend laws to bolster municipal financial stability but expressed disappointment that these amendments were not pursued.
