NNA - Russia has warned that strikes on Iran's nuclear infrastructure would have "catastrophic" consequences, following US President Donald Trump's threat to bomb Iran if it failed to reach an agreement with Washington on its nuclear program, according to Sky News Arabia.
"Threats are being heard, and ultimatums are being heard," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview with the Russian magazine "International Affairs", excerpts of which were published on Tuesday.
He added, "We consider such methods inappropriate, condemn them, and consider them a means (for the United States) to impose its will on the Iranian side."
Moscow refrained from harsh criticism of Trump, with whom Russian President Vladimir Putin quickly mended ties in a rapprochement that alarmed Ukraine and its European allies.
The Kremlin offered to mediate between the Trump administration and Iran, with which Russia signed a strategic partnership agreement in January.
In his first comment since Tehran refused to engage in direct negotiations with Washington, Trump threatened in an interview with NBC News earlier this week to bomb Iran and impose secondary tariffs if it did not reach an agreement on its nuclear program.
"If they don't make a deal, there will be bombing...It will be bombing like they've never seen before," he said.
