NNA - Rescuers and residents in Mandalay continued searching for survivors under collapsed buildings on Sunday as the Burmese city was struck by aftershocks, two days after a devastating earthquake that killed more than 1,700 people in Burma and at least 18 in neighboring Thailand, according to Agence France-Presse.
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Sagaing, central Burma, on Friday afternoon at a shallow depth. Minutes later, a 6.7-magnitude aftershock struck the same area.
The tremors toppled buildings, bridges, and roads, leaving widespread destruction in the city of more than 1.7 million people.
