NNA - The Chinese cargo ship "An Yan 2" ran aground off the coast of the Nevelsky region on the Russian island of Sakhalin, with 20 crew members on board, according to the Russian Emergencies Ministry, as reported by Russia Today.
The press service of the government of the Sakhalin region reported that the ship was carrying a cargo of coal and fuel, stressing that there was no threat to the safety of the crew.
It indicated that sufficient quantities of food and water were available on board the ship, with no fuel leakage has been recorded so far.
According to sources in the Sakhalin government, the ship ran aground on the evening of February 8 while trying to sail away from its anchorage due to worsening weather conditions, and the ship did not send any distress signal before it ran aground.
