NNA - Caretaker Culture Minister Gabi Layoun on Monday convened with the Iraqi Ambassador Raad Al-Alousi, and handed him over with ancient smuggled antiquities.
The Ambassador was accompanied with a delegation that came to receive these pieces.
The pieces were seized in 2012 from an Iraqi citizen in Lebanon. After his confession of stealing them, a judicial decision was taken to deposit the pieces at the General Directorate of Antiquities so as to take necessary legal action.
A committee of the Iraqi Ministry of Culture came to the Directorate to assert that these items belonged to the Iraqi republic.
