NNA - Under the Patronage of H.E. President of the council of Ministers, Mr. Najib Mikati and on behalf of the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, Mr. Imran Riza, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Lebanon, is pleased to extend an invitation to media representatives to cover the World Humanitarian Day (WHD) Honoring Ceremony on August 18, 2023, at the Movenpick Hotel in Rawsheh. 

This year's WHD Honoring Ceremony takes on a special significance as it marks the 20th anniversary of the tragic blast at the United Nations compound in Baghdad, which claimed the lives of 22 staff members and left over 150 others injured. This solemn event led to the establishment of World Humanitarian Day, advocating for the lives, well-being, and dignity of crisis-affected individuals, as well as the safety and security of aid workers.

Under the theme "No Matter What," this year's World Humanitarian Day aims to pay tribute to the unwavering dedication and relentless efforts of thousands of humanitarian workers worldwide. These individuals have demonstrated unparalleled commitment to aiding those most in need, no matter what are the challenges, politics, and differences to make a lasting impact.

In recognition of their commitment towards those most in need

The Honoring Ceremony will bring together representatives from Ministries, UN agencies, NGOs, and member states to acknowledge and commend the remarkable contributions of five distinguished organizations: the Lebanese Red Cross, Women Programs Association, Women Now for Development, Egna Legna, and the Lebanese Union for People with Physical Disabilities; these organizations have shown exemplary dedication in finding comprehensive solutions for populations affected by Lebanon's multifaceted crisis.
