NNA – United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, met on Tuesday evening with President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun. 

Talks reportedly focused on the most recent developments in Lebanon and the wider region. Discussions also emphasized the importance of fully implementing Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701 (2006), to bolster peace and security.  

Both leaders reaffirmed the critical role of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in maintaining stability along the Blue Line and stressed the need to ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers operating in the area.  

The Secretary-General commended Lebanon’s ongoing efforts in hosting large numbers of refugees and underscored the importance of pursuing durable solutions that facilitate voluntary, safe, and dignified returns. 

Reaffirming the United Nations’ steadfast commitment to Lebanon’s stability, the Secretary-General expressed support for the Lebanese government’s efforts to address the urgent needs of its people. He highlighted the UN’s role in recovery, reconstruction, and the implementation of essential reforms to support Lebanon’s path toward sustainable development and governance.
