NNA - Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, met this afternoon in Ain al-Tineh with MP-elect Najib Mikati, with talks touching on the overall situation post-parliamentary elections.
In the wake of the meeting, Mikati said "we relayed to Speaker Berri our support for his nomination for the Presidency of the House of Representatives. We hope the next mandate will be productive, (...) especially in terms of legislation."
Asked whether discussions had dwelled on the government formation, Mikati said "We have not touched on the issue of forming the government, but both Speaker Berri and I cling to supporting the prime minister. I have always said that this post is important and we must constantly support the prime minister, regardless who he was."
Berri later met with the Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammad Fathali, with whom he tackled the overall situation and the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.
Discussions also dwelled on the relations between the two countries.
MP Ghazi Aridi was also among the Speaker's visitors for today.
"In the previous phase, Speaker Berri was a safety valve to controlling political relations and maintaining balance and partnership in the country, and I am certain he will continue to be so for the next stage," Aridi said.
"I hope that some will reconcile with reason and return to the book on the one hand and behave wisely and properly in the management of the affairs of the state, the rebuilding of its institutions and the restoring of political life's regularity," he added.
