Donor countries' officials inspect Jeb Jenin solid waste management plant

NNA - A delegation of officials of donor countries in Lebanon visited on Monday Jeb Jenin's solid waste management plant, whereby they inspected its external structures and administrative offices, as a prelude for its equipment with the requisite tools and machines by donor countries.

The delegation comprised of the United Nations Program's Representative in Lebanon, Robert Watkins, the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Ninat Kelly, British Ambassador to Lebanon, Tom Fletcher, and the Representative of the International Development Agency, Mark Le Coq.

The solid waste management plant's establishment project is undertaken by the Municipality of Jeb Jenin at its own expense, to be later supplied with the necessary equipment and sorting machines by donor countries.

"The Plant's capacity reaches 100 tons per day in one shift. Shifts can be doubled to increase capacity to 200 tons," Jeb Jenin Municipality Head, Khaled Sharaneka said.

Ambassador Fletcher, for his part, hailed the role of Jeb Jenin Municipality in establishing such a vital project for the region, saying it would benefit tens of towns and villages.

Wakkins, for his part, lauded the role of local authorities in the region, underlining the significance of the efforts undertaken by heads of municipalities in ensuring a decent life for locals and displaced people.

Kelly, for her part, commended the ultimate role undertaken by municipalities in addressing the humanitarian topic of hosting the displaced Syrians in Lebanon.
