NNA - President of the Republic Michel Sleiman commended on Wednesday the General Security Directorate's efforts that resulted in uncovering a cell of terrorism that sought to carry out acts of sabotage in the country.
Sleiman also followed up on the case of the student who has been beaten by his teacher in one of Tripoli's schools.
Accordingly, he called on the Minister of Education and Higher Learning to supervise the investigations into this dossier and take the necessary measures against this act which is listed as "violence against children".
Sleiman held a one-on-one meeting, at the Baabda Palace, with outgoing Prime Minister Najib Mikati with talks featuring high on political and security affairs.
The President was later briefed by caretaker Deputy Premier Samir Moqbel on the dossiers that are being studied by ministerial committees under his presidency.
Separately, Sleiman met with General Security Chief, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, with talks featuring high on the security services' hard work to expose terrorist networks.
Abbas also informed Sleiman of the ongoing contacts regarding the Lebanese still kidnapped in Syria.
On a different note, the President received, in the presence of First Lady Wafaa Sleiman, the Head of Beirut Marathon Committee Ms. May Khalil, who invited him to attend the Marathon to be held late November.
Finally, Sleiman met the US Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale with whom he discussed bilateral relations and the US assistance to Lebanon especially that allocated to the Lebanese Army.
