NNA - A meeting was held Monday between caretaker Minister of Social Affairs, Wael Abou Faour, and Irish Minister of State for Trade and Development, Joe Costello, who asserted that Ireland and the international community would aid Lebanon with the overwhelming number of displaced Syrians.


An on field visit was necessary for the Irish official to see the effects the presence of the large number of displaced Syrians has on Lebanon and its infrastructure. Costello commended Lebanon's generosity in opening its doors for those seeking refuge, despite the incapacity of such a small country to hold such numbers.


"I will carry messages to everyone in my cabinet and to the EU as well as the UN and International Bank over the urgency of looking into Lebanon's situation and the effects Syrian refugees has on it. This country needs the support of the international community," said Costello.


He confirmed that Ireland would do its best to help in this regard.
