Qabalan exhorts US ambassador to press for peace instead of war

NNA - Vice Head of the Higher Shiite Council, Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, met Tuesday with the newly appointed US Ambassador to Lebanon, David Hale, who came on a protocol visit and for talks over the current situation in the country and the broader Arab region.

The top cleric reportedly called upon the US to work on giving people their freedoms and to do them justice, shedding light on the necessity that it does not support criminals and Takfiris in Syria.

He also prodded the envoy to relay to the US administration calls to back the political solution in the war-torn nation by backing inter-Syrians dialogue away from the freshly promoted military operations.

"When America mobilizes for peace, justice, and equality, it is stronger than when it leads wars (...) America must preserve the Syrians blood," Qabalan said.

He did not fail to remind that Israel was the utmost terrorist, reiterating the obligation to restitute to Palestinians their right to return to their homeland and establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

For his part, Ambassador Hale stressed that Lebanon's stability was a top US priority.
