Sleiman accentuates obligation not to be dragged into Syria battles

NNA - The President of the Republic, Michel Sleiman, on Tuesday shone light on the necessity that the Lebanese parties should not be involved in the battles taking place in war-ravaged Syria, in compliance with Baabda Declaration, in terms of keeping neutral towards other countries' affairs.

He reminded that this was mandatory in order to maintain political and security stability on the Lebanese internal scene. "Looming key political, democratic, and social due dates require that officials and leaders place them in crosshairs, before any other thing," he said.

Sleiman made these remarks during his meeting with outgoing Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, at Baabda presidential palace today.

The President also deprecated the shelling that hit the north region of Akkar and left many injured.

Separately, Sleiman chaired, in presence of Mikati, a meeting for the ministerial committee tasked with addressing the issue of Syrian displaced.

He later met with caretaker Minister of Social Affairs, Wael Abu Faour, over the official figures and whereabouts the Ministry has of Syrians in Lebanon.

Besides, the current general juncture and financial situation featured high in talks between the President and caretaker Minister of Finance, Mohammad Safadi.

The Secretary General of the Higher Relief Committee, General Ibrahim Bashir, had also been to Baabda today for talks with Sleiman over the committee's aids provided for the displaced Lebanese and Syrians.

Sleiman later met with former Deputy Assaad Harmouch, over the current situation in Tripoli and its vicinity.

He also met with the Emirati Chargé d'Affaires over the bilateral ties between Lebanon and UAE and the means to bolster them.
